I managed to get a Laura Lee Show archive to play finally! It is an .asf stream. I have the codecs installed. I followed the suggestion above and added the user-agent line (minus the echo), but that didn't do the trick.

What did work for me, I added the '-playlist' option. It still spit out a bunch of AF_INET6 gunk I don't understand, but it tried it twice then started playing the file!

Try mplayer option: -playlist

Hello,
Good comment from "natxo asenjo" mediaplayer connectivity is a great firefox/iceweasel extension and very easy to tune.

If you have problems playing proprietary closed formats maybe you shoul install win-32codecs or similar package.

Now mediplayer connectivity on LINUX is absolutely EXTRA : not only will you play ASF files with any of the above players also keep them on you computer.

First : yum install mmsrip or yum install mimms

(IF your fedora repositories are not properly set, you can also download any of these packages manually
and install as root # rpm -ivh mimms-bla-bla-bla.rpm)

Second, tune your mediplayer plugin to do this :
play wmv files with : /usr/bin/mmsrip
or with /usr/bin/mimms

As with anything new there is indeed a leaning curve. Once you become a "Linux Guru" you will also help others.

Regards

what I usually do is install the firefox mediaplayerconnectivity; it automagically loads the right link in your player of choice.
